All religions believe that the destiny of mankind is determined by the celestial war that goes on between good and evil. All festivals like Kumbh Mela, in essence, are a celebration of the victory of good over evil.

India is a land of fairs, festivals, and celebrations. Some are social like the Color Festival, and others are religious. Several million people congregate in four Indian holy cities for the largest celebration of humankind: the Kumbh Mela, the biggest and most sacred among all pilgrimages, that happens in the beginning of Kumbh Mela 2019 in Allahabad at Prayag — the confluence of three of the holiest of India’s rivers: the Ganga, the Yamuna and the mythical Saraswati at Allahabad and the greatest blessing for the pilgrim — both the sadhu and the ordinary person — is bathing in the holy water during Kumbh Mela festival.

In Kumbh Mela Allahabad (Prayag), where millions of devotees come to bathe during the festival of Kumbh Mela, is the holiest site for holy dip in the year 2019.

In Sanskrit Language it is said,

“triveni samgamo yatra

tirtharaja sa uchyate

tatra snanamprakurvita

sarva papairpramuchyate”

Means “Where the confluence of the three holy rivers occurs, the Triveni Sangam, it is the holiest of holy places specially during Kumbh Mela By bathing there, one is freed from all sins””

The real confluence of the three rivers is within us, so we must reach that inner place to take a holy bath and completely sanctify our inner lives. This is the art of meditation.

Again, according to the yogis, Ganga represents bhakti (devotion), Yamuna, karma (action), and Saraswati, jnana (knowledge). The holy confluence integrates knowledge, action, and devotion in daily life.

Kumbh Mela festival is based on distinct astrological positions of Sun, Moon and Jupiter. Kumbh Mela offers a chance to transcend to a level of liberation, salvation and Immortality to go beyond the sufferings of Material existence and Reincarnation itself.

The kumbhmela is celebrated 4 times over the course of 12 years at the 4 places on the bank of sacred rivers, at Haridwar on Ganges, at Ujjain on Shipra, at Nashik on Godavri and this year at Kumbh Mela at Prayag on the confluence of the rivers Ganga, Jamuna and the Mythical Saraswati.

Kumbh means a “pitcher,” which represents the human body or human life. It is made of clay and extremely fragile. It should be baked in the fire of yoga and filled with nectar-like love and devotion. Then we can celebrate the Kumbhmela in daily life.

Let us meditate and pray sincerely. Let our lives be filled with divine qualities. Let there be a congregation (mela) of blessings from the saints and sages.Let us feel blessed every day.
